Dollcast is a podcast founded in 2024 to cover issues from a trans conservative point of view. The co-hosts bill themselves as “mostly normal women.”
note:
Background
Dollcast was created in 2024 by conservative podcaster Brianna Wu. The show features a rotating cast of four trans co-hosts. Some episodes feature guests, typically anti-transgender academics and media figures.
The show is promoted as “the trans rights reboot. Less extreme, more thoughtful and willing to have fearless conversations.”
Responses
Some conservative trans people have welcomed the show, while centrist and progressive people in the community have been more critical.
Critics have come up with several disparaging names for the show, including:
- TIMcast (TIM is a slur meaning “trans identified male” and a play on anti-trans podcast Timcast)
- LARPcast (because critics say Wu is LARPing [live action roleplaying] as a “true transsexual”)
- Cringecast (because of the show’s collaborationist politics and early 2010s aesthetics)
Others have criticized the show’s title as sexist or appropriative. “Doll” is a term that emerged from a subculture where Wu and co-hosts would not qualify as “dolls” as the term is used. Wu appropriated the show title Dollcast from two earlier podcasts hosted by people who are all “dolls” as the term was originally used in the community.
The show is notable for its hosts’ disconnection from the trans community. On November 5, 2024, British journalist India Willoughby noted:
“I used to be like this. I didnât know any LGBT people before publicly coming out, and then I suddenly got swamped by LGBT orgs and charities because of all the media attention, telling me what to say, who to support, what to do etc – which I resented. I didnât want to be part of a âcommunity.â Iâd just broken free, and I was an individual. I transitioned because I was a woman and just wanted to fit in. So I lashed back at LGBT. I remember Piers Morgan telling me that I was ârole modelâ for doing so, and for a time, you get drunk on things like that. But then, as I found my feet and opened my eyes, I realised what these people liked wasnât âmeâ. They liked the fact I was attacking and taking the mickey out of my own. This gang of four need to grow up. They are actually blaming trans people for Right Wingers hating them – when Right Wingers will ALWAYS hate them. No amount of grovelling or trying to conform to conservative values, behaviour will ever change that. This rule also applies to Gays.”
Dollcast posted a video response to Willoughby on November 18.
On December 18, 2024, Wu posted a Dollcast episode about hair care on X, writing, “I know that there’s an angry crowd that will never believe trans women are an (admittedly weird) variation of woman. But for people in the middle, here’s 25 minutes of @dollcastshow just talking about doing our hair. Can anyone honestly say we would make sense living as men?”
On December 20, anti-trans extremist JK Rowling posted a screencap of the episode, writing, “Never forget: gender identity isn’t about sex stereotypes, but playing around with your hair proves you’re not a man.” Dollcast posted a video response on December 24.
In March 2025, conservative trans streamer Oliver “McMad” posted a review of Dollcast:
Even though everyone knows Brianna is a liar, the extent to which she’s willing to lie is pretty astounding, considering that she uses the criticism and backlash she gets from her statements as proof that she’s a victim of the ‘trans mob.’ She’s spreading blatant misinformation to smear and malign other parts of the trans community, but you’re the one who doesn’t want to have a reasonable conversation. You’re the ideologue if you disagree with her.
She’s constantly baiting people into canceling her, and I’m not the only one who’s noticed this, by the way. Rule number one of being a grifter: never cite your beliefs or opinions, only cite the backlash you got for whatever you said. You would be shocked at how effective this on normies. Like that type of shit is everywhere, but it’s especially insidious when you lie and spread misinformation like this, considering there is very little pushback anyone can give without being labeled as a fringe leftist.
It turns out most trans people, including trans women, don’t fuck with people who talk this much about their misery while antagonizing the rest of the community.
These people fundamentally misunderstand what being “reasonable” actually means. Brianna specifically talks about how she made the show for reasonable dialogue, but they put zero effort into actually demonstrating this.
Nobody cares how many time you guys get canceled or attacked by what you consider “the fringe.” Constantly invoking “the fringe,” or “the left,” or “the ideologues,” or “the unreasonable trans mob” or whatever other variation you can come up with doesn’t change that fact that you are advocating for shit that the majority of people on earth will find insane. Nobody gives a fuck what other trans people are saying about you when you are the one with a platform, meaning what you say carries infinitely more weight than the literal whomegalos you constantly milk for more victim points. You’re rich. You have a platform. And you have influence. If you’re still frustrated with having a lack of a voice after all that, then that’s one hundred billion percent a skill issue, and you should probably just give it up.
These are not logical thought patterns. This is purely feelings-based rhetoric, with lamentations about being canceled sprinkled in, so that the synapses of other mid-witted self-hating trans people light up. […] People on the outside looking in are not going to respect you more because you stepped on the rest of the community as a way to get a leg up in the clout game. […] A reasonable person would not give their opinion and then milk the backlash to further their own personal victimhood narrative. That’s not reasonable, it’s slimy and clout-hungry.
