Sally Satel is an American psychiatrist and anti-transgender activist affiliated with the conservative think tank American Enterprise Institute since 2000.
Background
Sally Louise Satel was born on January 9, 1956. Satel earned a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in 1977, a master’s degree from the University of Chicago in 1982, and a medical degree from Brown University in 1984. Satel completed a residency in psychiatry at Yale University in 1993.
Satel has been involved in the opioid crisis, serving as Consulting Psychiatrist at the clinic for Partners in Drug Abuse Rehabilitation and Counseling in Washington, DC. Satel is also known for defending Purdue Pharma and taking money from JD Vance for a showy program in Vance’s hometown region. After experiencing kidney failure, Satel has written about difficulties in finding a kidney donor.
Anti-trans activism

In 2025, Satel chaired a panel at the anti-trans Censorship in the Sciences conference titled Censorship Around Gender Research and Medicine. Panelists were anti-trans activist Carole Hooven, Diana Blum, J. Michael Bailey
