Laura Takala is a conservative Finnish psychiatrist who supports several disease models applied to gender diverse youth.
Background
Takala writes:
I am a specialist in youth psychiatry, doctor of medicine and Psychotherapist (cognitive analytical framework and dialectical behavior therapy DKT). I have versatile experience in the psychiatric assessment and treatment of young people and adults. I have worked for years in the public sector as a senior physician in youth psychiatry, for a few years as a health center physician, a school physician and in Aurora Hospital in the special care department (EHO), as well as a doctor specializing in emergency. I have lectured and trained extensively, worked as a consulting psychiatrist in various child protection institutions, in the investigative youth work unit of the Deaconess Institute in Vamos, and in the Helsinki Police as part of a multi-professional unit that assessed the need for treatment and support of young people with symptoms of crime.
My most recent research interests have been related to youth trauma and the challenges of young people’s gender identity experience. My special expertise focuses on the treatment of unstable and suicidal and traumatized young people, but I am happy to treat and evaluate young people and adults struggling with all kinds of symptoms.
In my free time, I am an avid motorcyclist and take care of my mind with open water swimming, exercise and gardening.
