Lisa Bildy vs. transgender people

Lisa Bildy is a Canadian lawyer and anti-transgender activist. Bildy is associated with anti-trans group Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms and has been involved in several anti-transgender legal matters in Canada.

Background

Lisa D.S. Bildy attended Western University, earning a bachelor’s degree in 1986 and a law degree in 1993. Bildy was called to the Ontario bar in 1995.

From 1993 to 2000 Bildy worked as a personal injury lawyer at Seabrook, Epstein, Ste. Marie & Miller. Bildy left practicing law in 2008 to homeschool children. Upon return in 2017, Bildy successfully challenged the Law Society of Ontario’s rules requiring lawyers sign a Statement of Principles.

Bildy represented a family that alleged their child was discriminated against when the Grade 1 teacher discussed gender identity and “gender fluidity” with the class. The Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario dismissed the application in 2022.

Bildy worked at Calgary-based Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms as a staff lawyer from 2019 to 2021, then started a private practice, Libertas Law. Bildy represented anti-trans activist Amy Hamm in the British Columbia Nursing College tribunal regarding Hamm’s extensive anti-trans activities.

Bildy is married to lawyer Alec S. Bildy. They have two children, Jacob and Hayden.
