Adam’s apple implant

One newer option for facial masculinization surgery is surgical masculinization of the thyroid cartilage (Adam’s apple). Developed by American surgeon Jordan Deschamps-Braly, the procedure augments the thyroid cartilage on the trachea using the patient’s rib cartilage to create a visible Adam’s apple.

Procedure

Rib cartilage is harvested and shaped into a thyroid cartilage graft and then attached to the native thyroid cartilage. The result is a cartilage that moves up and down with swallowing and a visible Adam’s apple.
